So, you’ve made that New Year’s resolution. You’ve started out great, and THEN…
Perhaps getting off track isn’t all bad. Having a chance to start over…
Social media can draw us into a virtual world where much time can be wasted. The appeal of the newsfeed to see what’s new lures you in. ‘Oh, I’ll just be on for 5 minutes!”
All it takes for a mental assent to the idea of quitting, and the next thing you know, you’ve thrown your dreams away. OR you could draw on that warrior within you and smash those defeatist thoughts to rise up and keep trying.
If you are a goal oriented, recovering perfectionist like me, then a setback would be viewed critically and a review of the goals would serve as a reminder of failure. That’s not good. I think this may be one reason why so many give up on their goals.
What about a different approach?
Feeling frustrated to the point of wanting to give up doesn’t mean that you are unsuccessful. More than likely, it means that you are trying. You are chasing goals. You are out of your comfort zone. You are DOING GREAT!
What if the thing you don’t want to do, or think you can’t do is the ONLY thing standing between you and the breakthrough you long for?
In 2016, I will lighten up on myself and resolve to be imperfectly awesome.
I will give my best, and my best, even if imperfect, will be good enough.
I WILL be pleased with my best efforts.
I believe those longings are there to cause us to search deeper and seek to answer those needs.
How can we be significant?
How can WE make a difference?
Is it possible to do something with our lives that so touches lives that you might hear, “Because of you, my life is changed.”?
How can being WHO you are have a positive impact on others as you fulfill all those obligations? You are meant to do more than survive, but to thrive and be WHO you are!
